“All he can do is dunk” – I am sure haters have said this about Seem before…
Naseem Gaskin has been playing with a ferocious anger this season. The Utah bound guard has impressed his teammates, coaches, family, and fans with his Russell Westbrook-like motor. The Dragon turned Ute has left it on the floor every game this season, and it is starting to come full circle for Seem. In numerous games we’ve covered this season, the theme for Gaskin has been to make his presence felt until the final buzzer. Against San Leandro at home earlier in the season, he went back to back with 4th quarter dunks to put the game away. We saw him do something similar against Clark HS (NV) during the Crush in the Valley in Napa at the end of January, and in Hawaii at the Ilona Classic in 2017, Gaskin wowed the crowd with his high flying star power. Gaskin also shut down Berkeley’s hopes the first time they played just a few weeks ago with a combination of dunks taking off on both one and two foot gathers. But it was just days after his 18th birthday, in round two of Berkeley and Bishop O’Dowd’s meeting this season (at Berkeley on their senior night), where he would make history. Gaskin showcased a career performance showing off his ability to shoot, rebound, block, pass, and just flat out score. The previous single game scoring record for Bishop O’Dowd was held by current Cal point guard, Paris Austin, who played for the dragons with Memphis Grizzlies F, Ivan Rabb just a few years ago.

From the jump, Gaskin started the game off with O’Dowd’s first ten points, hitting two three pointers and two layups shooting 100%. Shortly after, while at the free throw line, Gaskin winked over at the crowd midway through the first quarter, indicating he was about to turn it up!! With just three minutes remaining, coach Lou Richie subbed out the future Pac 12 Guard, at the time he had 36 pts. Everyone in the sold out gym thought the streaky shooting and torturous beat down was over, but that’s when Gaskin checked back into the game, where he immediately nailed a triple (all net), a free throw…and the grand finale, the theme, back to back thunderous dunks to shut the gym down. This helped Gaskin to score a total 44 points, his career high, making him the record holder for most single game points in the history of the prestigious Bishop O’Dowd Boys Basketball Program. Congrats to Naseem and the Gaskin family – you are just getting started! Check out the 44 point video below, and share this post if you enjoyed it!
