Talk about a road less traveled…The St. Ignatius Wildcats Boys Basketball program were many people’s pick for WCAL Champions – and had a shot at being state contenders during the 2016-2017 basketball season. After coming up short in an effort to secure WCAL bragging rights, the Wildcats fell to Mission High School in the NCS Division III Nor Cal Semi-Finals. The Bears, led by SF City College bound Niamey Harris, went on to defeat Villa Park and obtain a historic CIF State Championship for boys Division III Hoops, the first in San Francisco Public School history.
With players from the SI Program program competing all spring / summer with AAU ball clubs like SF Work Hard Play Hard, Team Arsenal, Dream Vision (Las Vegas), Oakland Soldiers, and LakeShow, their is no doubt the returning vets are coming for what they believe is theirs. Watching these guys reminds me of an old school NBA playoff team – they play better together – and really compliment one another …After experiencing the type of ending they did last season, I hope their opponents are ready.
Currently: The Wildcats are in Taiwan participating in a once in a lifetime experience going up against the top talent in Asia. Last year St. Ignatius invited a team from Asia to play in a local San Francisco Tournament. This year, with the help of sponsors, the Wildcats are in Taiwan at the Song Shan Cup. 15 Hours ahead of time – you can view their game set for 3:30 AM on FoxSports Play Asia (live link): http://bit.ly/2uRgYUW
